ChoralNet
This is a listserv where Choral Music teachers, and others involved with choral music can exchange of information and ideas.. It is open to anyone, but is specifically oriented towards providing information to the choral conducting professional. Several different topics are covered, such as detailed recommendations on repetoire to use, ways on improving rehearsal techniques, efficient resources for the choral director, recommendations on choral curriculum, and information on job openings.  This site will surely prove useful to me by providing me with a plethora of information I can apply to my current teaching practice. I have already gotten some great ideas on appropriate pieces to sing for our winter concert. Another person gave me some great ideas on new vocal warm-ups to use with my group.
Piano List An excellent listserv for pianists and piano teachers.  All aspects of performance and pedagogy are discussed, plus.topics such as literature, accompanying, memory and practice techniques, chamber music, pedagogical techniques, announcements of interest to pianists, recordings, history and theory; performance anxiety, injury, composition, and competitions. This site will provide me with a ton of information to use in my piano class. I am not happy with the book I have been using in my piano class and I have received several good recommendations from people on new materials to use Being a proficient piano player, it will also provide me with information for my own personal benefit. I also plan on passing the link on to my own piano students, so that they can benefit from it as well.  To subscribe, simply click on the link to the left, type SUBSCRIBE PIANO-L  followed by your first and last name.

ChoralAcademe
ChoralAcademe is focused on choral music research and the
exchanging of scholarly information among choral professionals.
Unlike the Choralnet listserv, this is specifically oriented towards research into choral performance, practice and literature. Here, choral professionals can share technical questions about music and performance, and intellectually discuss their thoughts. It is primarily for professional choral directors and singers. There have been several times where I've had difficult questions, and could not find the answers. It will be useful for me to have access to the minds of other professionals in my field to share these questions with, and hopefully find the answers I am looking for. To subscribe, simply click on the link to the left, type "Subscribe Choralacademe" followed by you first and last name.

Search Tools
HarmonyCentral This search engine can be very useful for all those who teach a guitar class, private guitar lessons, or simply play guitar for pleasure. It comtains a very large database of guitar tabulature, as well as song lyrics and chord changes. The search engine allows the user to search for a song, or for a specific artist. The site can also be searched alphabetically by artist by clicking on a letter. There is music available from all type of genres, ranging from classical to alternative.  I find it difficult to keep up with the music many of my students listen to, and the amount of music we have at our school is limited. This site is very helpful in finding songs the students wish to learn. For example, one of my students wanted to learn Blackbird, by the Beatles. I simply typed it in, and a link to the tabulature came up. The best part about this site is it is free, and it saves our school money by them not having to pay for the sheet music.
8notes.com This site proves very useful for all those music teachers who teach piano classes or private lessons. It contains free sheet music for compositions of all types of genres. It also contains free sheet music for orchestra, vocal, band and solo instruments as well. Anyone teaching any of these subjects will benefit from this search engine. I have put this site to use in my piano class to find the music for "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton, a very popular piece of music which all the students in my class wanted to learn. Once again, this site saves the money and time of having to purchase the music.
Classical Search This search engine is useful for any music teacher grades K-12, or anyone interested in classical music. It contains comprehensive information on classical composers, and the works they created. Simply type in the name of the composer to begin the search, or if you wish browse classical composer by letter of their last name. Each time we sing a piece of classical music, I like to give my students information on the composer of the piece. I will use this site to get the information, print it out, and give it to my students.  I will also encourage students to use this site to research composers when  they have a project or paper to do.

Music Lesson Plans
This is an excellent resource for Music teachers of all grade levels. It contains a wide variety of different lesson plans on several different music subject areas. Lessons range from a simple plan on finding the beat in music, to a month long unit on the blues. Although some of the plans are not exactly related to what I teach,  I will defintely be able to utilize a great deal of them. The site also contains links to pages that contain other lessons plans, or are just valuable resources for the music educator.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum This is a website which is valuable for all Music Educators, and any English or History teachers who are interested in integrating music into their curriculum. It contains 78 different lesson plans dealing with such topics as music from the 50's to the present(yes, rap music too!), analyzing lyrics and relating them to poetry, relating music to literature, and   In general it is chock full of excellent resources for stimulating student interest and creativity, developing higher order thinking skills and  promoting interdisciplinary learning
Data Sets or
Online Tools
Classical MIDI Archives  This is an excellent tool for all Music teachers, especially for those Choral teachers who use a projector hooked up to a computer in the classroom. The teacher can choose from a large selection of MIDI files to download and play for the class. Choral groups who rehearse difficult four part music will find it especially useful. If the teacher has a program such as Cakewalk, or Finale, they can actually download the songs, and pinpoit specific voice parts.
Today In Music History  This site is great for all music teachers, but especially for those who teach a Music Appreciation class. Teachers can chose any date within the year, and they will be given information on important music events that happened on that day in history. A great tool that teachers can use on a daily basis to share information about that specific day.

Telecollaborative
Projects
Music Inventions  This site has students creating original musical instruments of their own. They are to make an instument, name it, and share a brief desription of how the instrument was made, and how the sound is produced. They are to take photos of the final product, then submit them digitally or via mail. Students learn how sound is made through their own experiments. They are encouraged to test classroom musical instuments. There are also links to sound files where An excellent activity for students istudying all areas of music.
MUSIC PALS   The objectives of this project is to promote communication about music that accompanies world festivals. Students are to exchange musical information, photographs, and videos of children describing festivals in their own countries.  Students will explore holidays around the world and exchange information about each others cultures. It is a great opportunity for children to learn about others cultures to which they were never exposed.
